BREAKING: A + D Museum announces its first pop-up physical exhibition, ‘Smell. To print.’ that goes beyond the visual
Los Angeles, California, July 30, 2021 – The A + D Museum of Architecture and Design (“A + D Museum”) has announced “Smell. To print.’ opens on August 6, 2021. The exhibit is the first of A + D’s physical pop-ups since switching to a hybrid model in 2020. The timely exhibit focuses on one of our most underrated senses ; feel. Feel. To print. is an immersive show that demonstrates the power of perfume in the conception of space and the manipulation of the senses for the public. The exhibit was designed by Devon Baur, who works with emerging technologies and is currently an Artist in Residence at Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. She describes the inspiration behind the exhibition:
“In isolated quarantine, our main sense of connection came from seeing and hearing through screens, but now that we’re in person again, we want to explore the feeling of connection through our other senses. Smell, which became a global topic in the wake of Covid-19, was perfect for making connections. A single puff has the power to transport us through time and space.
A + D Museum’s program manager, Leila Anna Wahba, said:
“Feel. Print. Pushes our audience to new frontiers in design. This is an opportunity to take stock of how we could move away from classic modes of interaction and seize the power potential of perfume. a way to consider how to create a more equal point of entry into the design for those with different abilities. For the museum, the pop-up model is an incredible opportunity to engage with diverse communities, at the same time. As we move forward, we expect this to be the first of many new homes we find in Los Angeles.
Audience members will receive a glimpse of the power of scent, then be invited to experience it firsthand through a narrative olfactory journey. As the journey goes by itself, all visitors will come together in the creation of a memory through the experience of a perfume chemically designed to smell like nothing on earth. This scent impression will act as a unifier through an otherwise isolated period in human history.
Feel. To print. represents the first collaboration between A + D Museum and Stanford University.
