MSU’s Faculty of Art and Design 2021 Annual Exhibition in the Golding-Yang Art Gallery of the Claypool-Young Art Building runs from August 25 to September 17.
The 2021 Faculty Exhibition showcases the work of full-time, adjunct and emeritus professors. Most often, faculty members exhibit their work elsewhere in the United States and abroad. This show is a chance to show their current work locally to students and community members.
âAs teachers, we come to the classroom and teach students how to improve their work, but we don’t teach what we make. An exhibit like this is just as important a learning tool for students as what we teach them in the classroom. It gives students a chance to see how to take what they have learned and apply it in other ways â, said Melissa Yungbluth, gallery director and art teacher.
There will be a special memorial room dedicated to Adam Yungbluth, visiting professor of ceramics who died during the summer. His wife, Melissa, has put together over 200 works of art to share with colleagues, students and community members who knew him.
âAdam was a prolific and, in my opinion, a great maker of ceramics. I still have a lot of his work left and the hope is that people will come to the gallery, leave a memory of time with Adam and take a piece or two home.
The Faculty Forum will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, at the Golding-Yang Art Gallery. The exhibiting professors will be present to briefly present their work. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to ask questions and interact with the faculty.
The opening will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25. It is open to the public. Please contact Melissa Yungbluth, Gallery Director at [email protected] for more information.
