Today’s opening of Town Green West Playground marks the completion of the $2.1 million upgrade to the Town Green West Foreshore project, delivering significant benefits to Port Macquarie’s popular waterfront.

Over 250 square meters of play space included, new play equipment including new main play structure, new rest areas including shade, nature play pieces, rest/toddler area separated, new sandstone retainers, walkways and garden beds.

Improvements to Town Green, including Town Green West Playground, are a $2.13 million project, with the Australian Government providing $1.5 million through a Community Development Grant and $633,500 provided through levies levied on commercial property owners in the central business district of Port Macquarie.

The Town Green West – Foreshore project has completed a regionally significant offering for community members and visitors to the area, including a new pedestrian pathway, upgraded stone revetment wall, new LED lighting, seating, installation of new grass and irrigation.

Port Macquarie Mayor Peta Pinson said today’s opening of the playground caps a magnificent milestone, made possible thanks to the patience of our community and the commitment of Council and the Australian Government.

“What better way to mark the completion of this magnificent project than to unveil this incredible new facility for families visiting our beautiful foreshore just in time for the start of spring,” said Mayor Pinson.

“It will be another major addition to what is already a beautiful location, set against the backdrop of the Hastings River, local restaurants and newly upgraded Town Green lawns and walkways.

“Thank you to the tireless commitment of Council staff, our patient community and our funding partners to help bring this project to fruition. »

MP for Cowper Pat Conaghan thanked Port Macquarie Hastings Council and members of the Port Macquarie Town Center Master Plan Committee for seeing the project through from vision to completion.

“It is fantastic to see community members engaging directly with the Council and subsequently the federal government to provide the best facilities for our growing community,” he said.

“I am very pleased to see this particular election promise come to fruition, despite the considerable challenges the Council has faced in recent years. It is a testament to their vision and dedication. I know it will bring a lot of joy to tourists and locals. »

The Town Green West Playground was delivered in close consultation with the community. Initial community engagement was undertaken in December 2020 to understand what the community liked about the existing playground and what their vision for the upgrade was.

Based on this feedback, an initial concept design was developed and shared with the community for comment in May 2021. A final design was developed taking into account the feedback and was shared with the community in September 2021.

Through our community consultations, we received a lot of positive feedback which helped us develop the final design(PDF, 5MB) for the upgrade. We have also created an infographic that describes what we heard(PDF, 850KB) from our community and how their feedback influenced the design.
