The painting exhibition “Inner World” by the artist Thurles is currently taking place at Cahir Arts

The exhibition of paintings by artist Thurles PJ O’Connell entitled “Inner World” opened last Thursday at the Cahir Arts Gallery. The first ‘Cahir Arts’ exhibition of 2022 was curated by Siobhan O’Reilly of Limerick City Gallery. It’s free for everyone and will run until March 6, 2022.

The artist’s commitment to the principles and methods of abstraction is clear to all. The references made in his work to the ways in which the everyday world appears to us are almost entirely set aside so that feeling and emotion can be elicited directly through the interplay of materials and technique, media and the different ways in which design elements can be forced to behave.

There is a major commitment to the grid in this latest set of works with great emphasis (and delight) given to the physicality of paint application resulting in repetitive phrases and shifting layers. PJ O’Connell is a graduate of the Limerick School of Art and Design and the Van Beeldende Kunsten Academy in Rotterdam. He has exhibited works in solo and group exhibitions in Ireland and abroad since 1987. His works are in public and private collections in several countries. PJ is currently Head of Art and Design at Colaiste Mhuire Co – Ed. Thurles, County Tipperary.

Why not take some time and come see for yourself?
