Soon soaring above the skyline of Cebu City is a property that blurs the line between a house, a hotel, and an architectural icon. Although due for completion in 2023, The Suites at Gorordo by Worldwide Central Properties Inc. (WCPI) is already making waves due to its revolutionary design and unprecedented luxury.
After a victory at the Philippine Property Awards 2021, Leslie Ngo, CEO of WCPI, talks to us about what it takes to build an iconic monument.
It starts with the location. The Suites at Gorordo are located at the intersection of Archbishop Reyes and Gorordo, two main roads that converge in the heart of Cebu, giving residents access to an enviable list of amenities and amenities.
“It is located a short walk from Cebu Business Park, with hospitals, churches, hotels, restaurants and office buildings nearby,” says Ngo.
The Suites at Gorordo feature a unique and unmistakable design, which Ngo says was inspired by the Flatiron Building in New York City due to its similar location at a converging intersection. “We wanted to build a truly iconic structure,” explains Ngo.
WCPI collaborated with internationally renowned Filipino architects JSLA and H1 to design an elegant tower rising from the city center with a crown of glass at its peak.
“Our intention was to create a modern structure that represents Cebu’s identity as a cosmopolitan and forward-looking city,” says Ngo. “We wanted to create something that Cebuanos would be proud of.” And it’s not just the Cebuanos who are taking note. The Suites at Gorordo recently won the award for best high-rise condo development at the 2021 Philippine Property Awards, judged by a panel of local and regional real estate leaders.
A distinguishing factor about the property is that it will be fully managed by Singapore-based hotel company The Ascott Limited and will feature the country’s first serviced Somerset residences outside of Metro Manila. About half of the units will be serviced residences under the Somerset brand, while the other half will be residential. But all units will have access to the distinctive hospitality services the property is known for, with separate amenities to give guests and residents more privacy, including a sky garden, swimming pool, fitness center, and amenities. co-working spaces, to name a few.
Ascott will operate the Somerset assisted living facilities and provide property management for the entire property. “We chose Ascott because we wanted to partner with a global market leader among assisted living operators,” says Ngo. “But we also asked them to be the property manager of the residences in order to give our owners access to services similar to those of daily life in a luxury hotel.”
The Suites at Gorordo is also unique for its emphasis on sustainability and well-being. The suites have a floor-to-ceiling height of three meters for better cross ventilation and an influx of natural light. For materials, the property uses environmentally friendly engineered wood, energy efficient lighting, and low-emissivity double-glazed glass windows for noise and UV protection. But above all, says Ngo, it is designed to promote the comfort and well-being of its occupants.
What’s next for WCPI? With the construction of The Suites well underway, the developer is once again working with The Ascott Limited to set up another property in Cebu under their Citadines brand.
“We target those who want a home at every stage of their life, with an emphasis on a healthy lifestyle,” says Ngo.
For now, Ngo’s plans are focused on his beloved city of Cebu. “Cebu has it all. We have all the amenities we need in the city center, but at the same time the beaches and the mountains are only an hour away.
It’s this balance of having everything at your fingertips, but at a slower, more relaxed pace that forms the perfect backdrop for The Suites at Gorordo and the unique properties that define Cebu’s vibrant cityscape.
